Gut bugs for tiny tummies: probiotic trial aims to save premature babies

NCT ID NCT05710575

Summary

This study tested whether giving probiotics (beneficial bacteria) to premature babies in their first month of life could help prevent a dangerous gut infection called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and related deaths. It involved 100 very small, premature infants in a hospital in Lahore. Babies were randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or no treatment, and researchers compared their health outcomes.
