Probiotic powder may tame blood sugar in Pre-Diabetes

NCT ID NCT06972524

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a special probiotic supplement, taken daily for 8 weeks, can improve blood sugar control in middle-aged and older adults with pre-diabetes. About 110 participants will receive either the probiotic powder or a placebo. Researchers will measure changes in fasting blood sugar, blood sugar after a meal, and time spent in a healthy blood sugar range.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

a special probiotic supplement containing multiple ingredients (e.g., Paracaseobacterium LC19, Bifidobacterium lactis, mulberry leaf extract, bitter melon powder) mixed with milk powder

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to help manage blood sugar in people with pre-diabetes, potentially delaying or preventing diabetes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial (110 participants) over only 8 weeks, so results may not be generalizable. The supplement is a mix of many ingredients, making it unclear which one works, and benefits may be modest or absent.
