First seen Mar 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 02, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding a special probiotic (containing Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus subtilis) to the antibiotic rifaximin can better treat small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in adults with irritable bowel syndrome. About 100 participants will receive either the probiotic or a placebo alongside the antibiotic. The goal is to see if the combination improves SIBO eradication and reduces the chance of it coming back.
