Could a common probiotic ease the pain of IBS?
NCT ID NCT07168434
Summary
This study is testing whether a specific probiotic yeast, Saccharomyces boulardii, can reduce the severity of symptoms and improve quality of life for adults with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) that involves diarrhea or mixed symptoms. Over 400 participants will take either the probiotic or a placebo (a dummy pill) daily for 8 weeks, and researchers will compare their symptom scores. The main goal is to see if the probiotic is more effective than the placebo at easing overall IBS symptoms.
