New study aims to spare cancer patients from unnecessary radiation side effects
NCT ID NCT05333523
First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether using a sentinel lymph node biopsy to guide radiation can safely reduce the amount of neck radiation in people with certain head and neck cancers. About 242 adults with squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx will be randomly assigned to either standard bilateral neck radiation or a personalized approach where radiation is omitted or limited based on biopsy results. The goal is to maintain cancer control while improving quality of life by reducing dry mouth and other long-term side effects.
