Common surgery complication targeted in Men's health study

NCT ID NCT04491526

Summary

This study tested whether a medication called tamsulosin could prevent urinary retention—the inability to urinate—in men after hernia repair surgery. It involved 312 men aged 60 and older who were scheduled for a specific type of hernia surgery. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either tamsulosin or a placebo pill before and after their operation to see which group had fewer urinary problems.
