Twin pregnancy breakthrough: simple treatments may prevent preterm birth

NCT ID NCT02518594

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested two treatments—a vaginal ring (pessary) and a hormone (progesterone)—to see if they could prevent early preterm birth in women pregnant with twins who have a short cervix. Over 1,300 women participated. The goal was to see if either treatment could help the babies stay in the womb longer, reducing the risk of health problems from being born too early.
