Heart surgery patients may avoid dangerous rhythm disorder with simple extra step

Summary
This study tests whether adding a preventive heart procedure during planned cardiac surgery can stop a common complication called atrial fibrillation (AF). About 960 adults aged 65+ who are already scheduled for heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the extra procedure or standard care. The goal is to see if this approach reduces AF episodes after surgery and over the next three years.
