First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a breathing device called PEP before and after hip fracture surgery can prevent pneumonia that patients catch in the hospital. About 566 adults with hip fractures who are mentally sharp and speak Danish will take part. Half will use the PEP device four times a day during their hospital stay, while the other half gets standard care. Researchers will also track any problems patients have using the device.
