New injection tested to stop dangerous complication after common medical procedure

NCT ID NCT07173179

Summary

This study tested if adding a simple injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) around the bile duct opening, on top of the standard preventive medication, is better at preventing pancreatitis (a painful pancreas inflammation) after an ERCP procedure. Over 500 patients undergoing this common bile duct treatment were randomly assigned to receive either the standard medication alone or the medication plus the injection. The goal was to see if the combination is a safe, effective, and low-cost way to reduce this serious complication.
