Drug duo tested to shield cancer patients from agonizing radiation sores

NCT ID NCT06031012

Summary

This study tested whether adding the drug thalidomide to a nutritional supplement (glutamine) is better than glutamine alone at preventing or delaying severe mouth sores in patients receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancers. 138 adult patients were randomly assigned to receive one of the two treatment plans. The main goal was to see if the combination could help patients go longer without developing these painful sores.
