New drug aims to stop menopause mood crash

NCT ID NCT03689543

Summary

This study tested if a new experimental drug could prevent mood symptoms from coming back when women with a history of perimenopausal depression stopped taking estrogen. Researchers gave 74 healthy, postmenopausal women estrogen patches for three weeks, then randomly gave them either the new drug or a placebo for three more weeks to see if it could block the return of depressive symptoms. The goal was to find a safer, more targeted way to manage this specific type of depression linked to hormonal changes.
