New drug aims to shield ears from antibiotic side effect
NCT ID NCT05730283
Summary
This study is testing a new oral drug, ORC-13661, to see if it can prevent or reduce hearing loss in patients who need to take the antibiotic amikacin for a serious lung infection. About 105 adults will take either a high dose, low dose, or a placebo pill daily while on their antibiotic treatment for up to 90 days. Researchers will compare the groups to see if the study drug helps protect hearing during this necessary but potentially harmful therapy.
