Probiotic breakthrough: new study aims to stop recurring vaginal infections
NCT ID NCT07527572
First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tests whether taking a daily probiotic pill (Lactobacillus gasseri) can prevent bacterial vaginosis (BV) from returning after standard antibiotic treatment. BV is a common vaginal infection that often comes back, causing discomfort and discharge. The trial will involve 160 women with a history of recurrent BV and will follow them for 6 months to see if the probiotic reduces the chance of another infection.
