Ultrasound-Guided fluids aim to stop dangerous blood pressure drops in elderly surgery

NCT ID NCT06206434

Summary

This study aims to prevent a dangerous drop in blood pressure that can occur after spinal anesthesia in elderly patients having hip surgery. Researchers are testing if using a heart ultrasound scan before surgery to identify dehydrated patients, and then giving them extra IV fluids right after the spinal block, can reduce this risk. The study focuses on older patients (over 70) with heart conditions who are also dehydrated.
