New imaging tech could help preterm babies breathe easier

NCT ID NCT06705257

First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how different levels of gentle breathing support (called PEEP/CPAP) affect the lungs of babies born before 32 weeks. The goal is to find the best pressure to keep their tiny lungs open and reduce the need for a breathing machine. Researchers will use a new, radiation-free imaging device called Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) to see real-time lung changes. About 30 babies on breathing support will take part in the first two weeks of life.
