Ambulance blood tests could keep thousands out of hospitals

NCT ID NCT07503470

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a rapid blood test done in the ambulance can help paramedics and doctors decide which adults can safely stay home instead of going to the hospital. About 1500 adults who call emergency services will take part. Half of the ambulance teams will use the test, and half will not. The goal is to see if the test reduces unnecessary hospital trips without putting patients at risk.
