New study aims to predict meningitis germs without waiting for tests

NCT ID NCT07432113

First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a patient's symptoms and spinal fluid results can predict if a rapid test (BioFire) will find the germ causing meningitis or encephalitis. Researchers will study 182 adults in Brazil to see how often the test is positive and if using it can shorten hospital stays and reduce unnecessary antibiotics. The goal is to use the test more wisely, saving time and money.
