Silent crystal clues: scans may reveal gout before it strikes

NCT ID NCT05434858

Summary

This study aims to find out if special scans (ultrasound and CT) can detect tiny crystal deposits in people with high uric acid but no symptoms, and predict if and when they will develop painful gout. Researchers are following 21 people with high uric acid levels for 5 years to see if those with visible crystals are more likely to get gout. The goal is to better understand the early stages of gout before symptoms appear.
