First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested a new method to predict whether children with severe sepsis or septic shock would benefit from additional fluids. Doctors gave a very small amount of fluid quickly (a mini-bolus) and measured changes in heart function. The goal was to find a simple, reliable way to avoid giving too much fluid, which can be harmful. The study included 11 children on breathing machines in intensive care.
