Scientists search for keys to unlock immune attack on rare adrenal cancer

NCT ID NCT00457587

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is not testing a new drug, but rather doing the early science needed to develop one. Researchers are looking for the right targets (antigens) on adrenocortical carcinoma cells and studying how the tumor suppresses the immune system. The goal is to find a way to create a vaccine or immunotherapy for this rare and aggressive cancer. The study includes 150 people with the cancer and healthy volunteers.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could identify targets for a future vaccine or immunotherapy for adrenocortical carcinoma.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, preclinical study. It is not testing a treatment on patients, so it may not lead to a usable therapy. The findings may not translate into clinical benefit.
