NCT ID NCT07221552
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a motorized, height-adjustable bedside commode called PPAL that includes built-in transfer boards. The goal is to help people who have trouble getting on and off the toilet do so more safely and with less help from caregivers. Sixteen adults who weigh 300 pounds or less and can sit independently for at least 2 minutes will use the device at home for six weeks. Researchers will measure changes in fear of falling and toileting ability.

- What this could lead to
- If successful, this device could help people with limited mobility transfer to the toilet more safely and independently, reducing fear of falling and caregiver strain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 16 participants and no control group. Results may not apply to everyone, and there is a risk of falls or minor injuries when using a new device.
