Scientists test hormone theory behind 'Baby Blues'

NCT ID NCT00001481

Summary

This study aimed to understand if sudden hormone changes after pregnancy trigger postpartum depression. Researchers gave hormones to 74 women with and without previous postpartum depression, then stopped them to mimic childbirth. They measured mood changes to see if hormone withdrawal causes symptoms, rather than just being exposed to high levels.
