New hope for smoother recovery after bowel surgery

NCT ID NCT07434310

Summary

This study is testing if continuing a medication called dexmedetomidine for 48 hours after bowel surgery helps people recover better. The goal is to see if it improves comfort, reduces pain, and lessens the need for strong painkillers that often cause nausea and constipation. About 70 adults having planned laparoscopic bowel surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the medication or a placebo infusion after their operation.
