Nerve block may ease pain after achilles surgery, cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT06886815

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a popliteal nerve block (an injection near the knee) can help control pain and reduce the need for strong painkillers after surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon. About 80 adults having this surgery will be randomly assigned to get either the nerve block or a placebo injection, along with standard pain medicine. Researchers will track pain levels and opioid use for 24 hours after surgery, and also check for nerve-related symptoms and recovery of function.
