Gum graft showdown: which method gives the best bridge base?

NCT ID NCT07434297

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested two ways to improve gum shape where a missing tooth will be replaced by a fixed bridge. Both methods use a small piece of tissue taken from the roof of the mouth. One method removes all the surface skin from the graft, the other leaves part of it. The goal is to see which gives thicker, healthier gum tissue for a better-looking and more functional bridge. Twenty-four adults with one or more missing teeth took part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

connective tissue graft (from the roof of the mouth)

What this could lead to

If one graft works better, dentists may have a clearer choice for improving gum shape before placing a dental bridge.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 24 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and the two graft types may show little difference.
