Plastic heart valve? small trial tests polymer replacement for mitral valve disease
NCT ID NCT07243184
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early study will test a new polymer artificial heart valve in 10 people aged 60 or older with severe mitral valve disease. The goal is to see if the valve is safe and can be implanted successfully. Researchers will track deaths, reoperations, and how well patients can walk after the procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
polymer artificial heart valve
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more durable and safer artificial heart valve option for people with mitral valve disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early feasibility study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply widely. The valve may fail or cause complications, and long-term safety is unknown.
