Coconut oil vs. antibiotic ointment: which helps babies heal better after circumcision?
NCT ID NCT07750093
First seen Aug 06, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial compares two post-circumcision care options for infants: an antibiotic ointment called Polyfax and coconut oil. The goal is to see which leads to fewer complications like bleeding, infection, or delayed healing, and which parents find more satisfactory. About 90 infants under 6 months old will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments, and they'll be checked at 1 week, 3 months, and 6 months after the procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Polyfax (antibiotic ointment) or coconut oil applied locally after circumcision
- What this could lead to
- If one works better, it could point to a simpler, safer routine for infant circumcision care, reducing complications and improving healing.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. Also, individual reactions to either substance could vary, and the study doesn't compare against no treatment.
