First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study looks at how different types of anesthesia (general vs. spinal) and fluid levels during surgery affect short-term memory and thinking problems in adults over 65 having leg surgery. Researchers will monitor brain oxygen and fluid status during surgery and test thinking skills 24 and 48 hours later. The goal is to understand what factors contribute to postoperative cognitive decline, not to test a new treatment.
