New vaccine strategy aims to shield vulnerable adults from deadly infections
NCT ID NCT02052154
Summary
This study tested a new two-step vaccination plan to help protect adults who have had their spleen removed. People without a spleen are at high risk for severe, fast-moving pneumococcal infections. Researchers gave 70 participants one type of vaccine, followed by a second type two months later, to see if this combination triggered a stronger and longer-lasting immune defense.
