Could an abdominal belt ease back pain for dialysis patients?
NCT ID NCT07679425
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026
Summary
This study investigates whether a pneumatic compression device worn around the upper abdomen can improve diaphragm movement and reduce pain in people on hemodialysis who have chronic low back pain. Fifty participants will use the device during breathing exercises for 12 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in diaphragm function, pain intensity, and walking ability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pneumatic compression device
What this could lead to
If effective, this device could offer a drug-free way to ease back pain and improve breathing function in people on dialysis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device may not provide lasting relief.
