Can tiny tubes tame cancer fluid in the lungs?
NCT ID NCT07208409
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study looks at whether very small chest tubes (8 Fr, 12 Fr, and 14 Fr) can be used effectively for talc pleurodesis in people with malignant pleural effusion—fluid buildup around the lungs due to cancer. The goal is to see if these smaller tubes are less painful and still work well to prevent fluid from coming back. Sixty adults with pleural effusion will be randomly assigned to one of three tube sizes, and the main measure is whether the tube stays unblocked after the talc procedure.
