Could your own blood help fix a hernia for good?

NCT ID NCT05023174

Summary

This study is testing if adding a patient's own concentrated platelets (platelet-rich plasma or PRP) to the surgical mesh used in hiatal hernia repair can make the repair stronger and last longer. It will compare the standard mesh repair to the same repair enhanced with PRP in 150 patients with large hernias. The main goal is to see if the PRP treatment reduces the chance of the hernia coming back within a year and improves patients' reflux symptoms and quality of life.
