Blood protein 'Fingerprints' could predict dangerous infections in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT07277387

First seen Dec 18, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looks at blood samples from 350 adults with blood cancer who develop fever and very low white blood cells (a condition called febrile neutropenia). The goal is to find patterns of proteins (called 'combitypes') that can predict serious complications like sepsis early. Researchers will collect blood at fever onset and 48 hours later, then use computer models to identify the best protein markers. This is an observational study, so no new treatment is given, but the findings could help doctors make faster, better treatment decisions.
