New PKU drink tested in kids: could it smooth out blood levels?

NCT ID NCT05487378

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested a new protein substitute called PKU GOLIKE in 16 children with PKU, a condition where the body can't process an amino acid called phenylalanine. For one week, children took PKU GOLIKE as their last protein drink of the day, and for another week they took a standard amino acid substitute. Researchers measured blood phenylalanine levels to see if the new product caused fewer fluctuations. The goal was to find a better way to manage PKU through diet.
