First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looks at how small differences in a gene called PKLR might affect red blood cell function and symptoms in people with sickle cell disease. Researchers will collect blood samples from 800 adults of African descent, both with and without sickle cell disease, to analyze genetic variants and related proteins. The goal is to better understand why some people have more severe symptoms than others.
