NCT ID NCT03685721

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at how small differences in the PKLR gene might make sickle cell disease symptoms better or worse for different people. Researchers will collect blood samples from 800 adults of African descent, both with and without sickle cell disease, to measure certain proteins and energy molecules in red blood cells. The goal is to understand why some people have more complications than others, which could lead to better treatments in the future.
