Smart prosthetic foot mimics natural twist to ease walking

NCT ID NCT03532100

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tested a special prosthetic foot that can twist as you walk, just like a real ankle does. Fourteen people with a below-knee amputation tried different twist settings while walking in straight lines and circles. The goal was to find the setting that feels best and puts the least pressure on the leg. This research helps design better prosthetic feet, but does not offer a treatment or cure.
