Can a fibrosis drug save ARDS patients from Long-Term lung damage?

Summary
This study tests whether pirfenidone, a drug already used for lung scarring in another disease, can prevent fibrosis in patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). About 130 adults on ventilators will receive either pirfenidone or a placebo. The goal is to see if the drug helps them spend fewer days on a breathing machine and improves recovery.
