Altitude exercise fuel mystery: diabetes drug tested on 9 men

NCT ID NCT06164665

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looked at whether pioglitazone, a drug that improves insulin sensitivity, can help the body burn carbs from food during exercise at high altitude. Nine healthy men exercised on a treadmill in a chamber simulating high altitude after taking the drug or a placebo. The goal was to understand how altitude affects fuel use, not to treat a disease.
