New light therapy could save failing dental implants

NCT ID NCT07191522

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special light treatment (photodynamic therapy) can better control infection around dental implants compared to standard cleaning tools. About 40 adults with peri-implantitis will receive one of two non-surgical treatments, and researchers will check gum health and bone loss after 6 weeks. The goal is to preserve the implant and prevent further damage, not to cure the condition permanently.
