Remote Follow-Up for pituitary tumors: safe or risky?
NCT ID NCT06297473
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares the safety of routine telephone or video follow-ups versus in-person visits for patients with non-functioning pituitary tumors. Over two years, 812 participants will be randomly assigned to remote or in-person check-ups. The goal is to see if remote follow-up is as safe as in-person care in preventing serious complications like adrenal crisis or severe sodium imbalances.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Telephone or video follow-up (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could allow patients with non-functioning pituitary tumors to safely have routine follow-ups by phone or video instead of traveling to the clinic.
What could go wrong
This is a non-inferiority trial, so it may show that remote follow-up is not as safe as in-person visits. The results may not apply to all patients, especially those with complex needs.
