NCT ID NCT07551921
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test a new device called PheCheck™ that measures phenylalanine levels from a single fingerstick drop of blood. About 60 people with PKU or hyperphenylalaninemia, aged 1 year and older, will use the test at home and compare results to standard lab testing. The goal is to see if the rapid test is accurate enough for routine self-monitoring.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- PheCheck™ rapid fingerstick test device
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could give people with PKU a fast, convenient way to monitor their phenylalanine levels at home without waiting days for lab results.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early validation study with only 60 participants. The test may not be as accurate as the lab method, and home use could introduce user errors.
