Preemie heart clue: chemical levels may predict ductus risk

NCT ID NCT07338370

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether levels of a natural chemical called PGE2 in very premature babies (born at 32 weeks or earlier) can predict if they will develop a serious heart condition called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Researchers will measure PGE2 in the blood and compare it to heart ultrasound results. No treatments are given; the goal is simply to learn more about how this condition develops.
