Quick video training aims to help doctors diagnose grief in seniors

NCT ID NCT07487233

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a brief informational video can improve how doctors diagnose prolonged grief disorder (PGD) in older adults. About 198 physicians in geriatrics, psychiatry, and family medicine will watch either a PGD training video or a general bereavement video. Their ability to correctly identify PGD in clinical scenarios will be measured before and after the video. The goal is to see if simple training can reduce missed or wrong diagnoses.

What this could lead to

If successful, this training could help doctors recognize prolonged grief disorder in older adults, leading to earlier and more accurate diagnosis and better support.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 198 participants. The training is brief, and it may not change how doctors diagnose in real-world settings.
