New scan could replace painful biopsy for common artery disease

NCT ID NCT05246540

Summary

This study tested if a PET/CT scan could accurately diagnose giant cell arteritis (GCA), a common artery inflammation in people over 50. It compared the scan's accuracy to other imaging tests and the current standard, which is an invasive biopsy. The goal was to find a less painful and more reliable way to confirm the diagnosis so patients can start the right treatment sooner.
