Scan could shorten risky drug treatment for deadly fungal infections

NCT ID NCT02955966

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of scan (PET/CT) could show when a serious fungal lung infection was under control earlier than standard scans. Researchers followed 51 patients with blood cancers and this lung infection to see if the PET/CT scan results at 6 weeks could predict when it was safe to stop strong antifungal medications. The goal was to gather information to help design future studies that could shorten treatment and reduce drug side effects.
