New flap technique aims to restore mouth function after cancer surgery
NCT ID NCT07590427
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests a surgical flap taken from the jawbone lining to rebuild small-to-medium sized defects in the floor of the mouth, often after cancer removal. Twenty adults who need this reconstruction will receive the flap procedure. Researchers will measure pain, speech, swallowing, and complications to see if the technique is reliable and improves quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgical procedure: lateral periosteal-muscular flap
What this could lead to
If successful, this flap could offer a reliable, simpler option for rebuilding small-to-medium mouth defects after cancer surgery, potentially improving speech and swallowing.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants. The procedure may not work for everyone, and risks include infection, flap failure, or poor healing.
