Scientists search for clues in spit and gum tissue to stop tooth loss
NCT ID NCT04831060
Summary
This study aims to understand how the body's immune system causes bone and tissue damage in serious gum disease (periodontitis) and infections around dental implants (peri-implantitis). Researchers will collect saliva, gum fluid, and small tissue samples from 219 patients with these conditions and from patients with healthy gums. By comparing these samples, they hope to identify specific molecules involved in the damage, which could lead to better ways to detect, prevent, and treat these common dental problems in the future.
