Scientists hunt for clues in the mouth to fight gum disease

NCT ID NCT04831060

Summary

This study aims to better understand the body's immune and inflammatory response that causes bone and tissue damage in serious gum disease (periodontitis) and infections around dental implants (peri-implantitis). Researchers will collect saliva, gum fluid, and tissue samples from patients with these conditions and from healthy patients to identify specific molecules involved. The goal is to gather knowledge that could lead to better ways to detect, prevent, and treat these common dental diseases in the future.
